KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has instructed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to resolve a contentious issue involving the misuse of an amenity plot within 45 days. This directive follows a constitutional petition filed by the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) concerning the alleged commercial use of the plot in the Kathiawar Housing Society.
A division bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Yousuf Ali Saeed and Justice Abdul Mobeen Lakho, heard the petition submitted by PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor, represented by Khuram Lakhani Advocate. The court’s brief order addressed the alleged transformation of the amenity plot into a commercial school.
The order noted that the petitioner’s counsel had previously approached the SBCA Director General for appropriate action. The court expressed satisfaction with the course of action proposed by the counsel and directed the SBCA to consider the petitioner’s application within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring compliance with legal provisions.
The SBCA’s representative raised no objections to the court’s direction, leading to the disposal of the petition. The SBCA Director General is now tasked with issuing a decision after considering all relevant parties involved.
Outside the court, PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor highlighted the growing issue of commercial activities on amenity plots in Karachi. He attributed this trend to the collusion between cooperative society officials and corrupt elements within the bureaucracy. Shakoor affirmed the PDP’s commitment to advocating for citizens’ legal rights and addressing such issues.
