Rawalpindi, The Punjab Arts Council, in collaboration with Daira and the Jhang Chinot Officers Association, hosted a National Literary Reference to honor the late Professor Syeda Farrukh Zahra Gilani, a renowned intellectual and educationist. The event, which drew participants from neighboring cities, was a celebration of Gilani’s significant contributions to literature and education.
According to Punjab Arts Council, the reference was presided over by Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi, Chairman of the Literary Organization. In his address, Dr. Mehdi praised Professor Gilani’s poetry, emphasizing its themes of love, patriotism, and reverence for religious figures. He also called on the government to rename an important highway in Jhang city in her honor.
The event was a platform to launch five books of poetry by Professor Gilani, highlighting her choice of poetry as a medium to immortalize her emotions and thoughts. Ehsan Kabaria of the literary organization expressed pride in organizing the book launch, acknowledging Gilani’s impact on the literary world.
Waqar Ahmed, the Director of the Arts Council, extended gratitude to the attendees for their participation. Several speakers, including Rai Riaz Hussain, Mrs. Madiha Hussain Abdi, Ammar Yasir, Agha Waqar Haider, Sajjad Hussain Qadri, and Akhlaq Zaidi, gave references to Professor Gilani’s personality and literary achievements.
Syed Saqib Hussain Gilani, the son of Professor Gilani, shared insights into his mother’s life, describing her as an active and well-connected woman intellectual. The reference brought together a large audience, underscoring the wide-reaching influence and respect Professor Gilani commanded in literary circles.
