Punjab University Hosts Advanced DNA Sequencing Workshop

Lahore, The Punjab University Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB) and the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) have jointly hosted a comprehensive 5-day training workshop on DNA Sequencing, marking a significant advancement in the field of molecular biology research in Pakistan.

According to University of The Punjab, the workshop was graced by the presence of PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Founding Director of Jinnah Burn and Reconstructive Surgery Prof Dr Moazzam Naseer Tarar, Director CAMB Prof Dr Rehan Sadiq, Director CEMB Prof Dr Moazur Rahman, along with faculty members and experts from various institutes across the country. The event aimed at equipping participants with hands-on experience in the latest DNA sequencing techniques and their applications in research, ultimately contributing to human welfare and the future of life science research.

In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood lauded CAMB and CEMB for their pivotal roles in pushing the boundaries of molecular biology, enhancing the university’s contribution to the scientific community. Prof Dr Moazzam Tarar emphasized the importance of the training, noting it as a unique chance for participants to immerse themselves in DNA sequencing work and its vast applications across different research domains.

Dr Farooq Sabar, the in-charge of the CAMB DNA sequencing facility and the workshop’s patron in chief, highlighted the enthusiastic response from applicants nationwide, with 30 individuals being selected for the workshop from a large pool of applicants. The selection process underscored the high interest and demand for specialized knowledge in this cutting-edge area of science.

The workshop concluded with Prof Dr Rehan Sadiq welcoming the attendees and Prof Dr Moazur Rahman expressing gratitude towards the participants and guests. The event also featured the distribution of souvenirs to the esteemed guests, commemorating their contributions to the success of this important educational initiative.
