President Dr Arif Alvi presides over 25th Convocation of GIK Institute 

Peshawar, August 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):President Dr Arif Alvi presides over 25th Convocation of GIK Institute, the Chief Guest came up with some thought provoking experiences about his practical life and impressed upon the students to remain committed and motivated in their professional lives. He started off by emphasizing the need for initiating struggle in the timeliest manner and moving along in life without the fear of hurdles or stumbling blocks that usually come into one’s way.

The Minister stated, “Set your goals high and never compromise on your values, I learnt something from here that I can apply in my life”. He expressed his appreciation of the efforts made by the Institute for successfully maintaining its status as a Centre of Excellence over three decades and offering necessary assistance in catching up with technological advancements in engineering sciences and technologies.

Mr. Shakil Durrani, Executive Director, SOPREST, President Dr Arif Alvi, the Chancellor of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology presided over 25th convocation. The President had awarded degrees to the gold medallists and PhD graduates at a function held at the President House in Islamabad on 28th July, 2021 and conferred degrees on all graduating students. The Degree Awarding Ceremony held at the Institute was a continuation of the convocation.

This year, 9 PhDs, 59 MS and 408 BS students were awarded degrees at the Degree Awarding Ceremony. The Ceremony was held on July 29, 2021 at new Academic Block of the Institute and attended by a large number of parents and families of the graduating students.

The Ceremony was presided by Mr. Taimur Salim Khan Jhagra, Provincial Minister for Finance and Health. The Minister, in his address to the students shared his lifelong experiences by stating that hard work not only plays a pivotal role in success but also makes it certain. He emphasized that the key to success lies amidst immense practice. He also reiterated that for guaranteed achievements of one’s objectives in career, concerted efforts are essential.

Being the proud alumnus of GIK while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of technological advancements in the world that are revolutionizing the lives and the ways of working. He advised GIK faculty to adapt to the transformational technologies and initiate futuristic programs as the top university through the positive use of science and technology.

Earlier in his address to the students, Sardar Aminullah Khan, Acting Rector of the Institute lauded the achievements of the students and acknowledged the support and cooperation of the students in management of corona virus at a fully residential campus. He elaborated that the expansion of the Institute in the strength of the students, experience and critical infrastructure, both human as well as physical, over the years has helped it achieve high standards and the same has been acknowledged at global level by Times Higher Education in its ranking declaring GIK Institute as No. 1 University in the category of quality education under SDG-4.

In his vote of thanks, Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan, Pro-Rector (Academics) stated that the secret of survival in this competitive new century lies in acquiring, generating, accumulating, sharing, and using knowledge for progress and development with new style.

As per Institute’s sources, 49 students of Faculty of Computer Engineering, 38 Computer Science, 59 of Faculty of Electrical Engineering (Electronics), 35 Electrical Engineering (Power), 21 Faculty of Engineering Sciences, 46 each of Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering, 94 of Mechanical Engineering and 20 of School of Management Sciences graduated this year. 59 students, who completed their MS degrees in various disciplines of engineering, were also awarded degrees in the convocation.

The graduates awarded with the doctorate degrees were Madiha Tahir, Uzma, Abd Ullah Khan, Saad Ullah Khan, Arifullah, Abdul Kabir, Shahid Alam, Rahmat Ullah and Ihteram Ali. The faculty-based gold medals were awarded to Usman Farooq, Muhammad Riaz-ul-Haq, Muhammad Usman Umer, Minahill Jamshaid, Muhammad Shehryar, Huzaifa Kamran, Danyal Hakeem Jokhio, Sheikh Abdul Majid, Afifa Dilawaiz Cheema, Afaq Hussain and Abdur Rehman Anwar.

The Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal for best overall performance in all undergraduate programs was won by Minahil Tariq and Sheikh Abdul Majid received the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Gold Medal for the best academic performance in all undergraduate programs.
