Lahore, Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaquat Baloch, has announced that in the aftermath of the February 8, 2024 elections, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have come to an agreement on a common strategy in response to the current political climate. This collaboration follows discussions between leaders of both parties, addressing concerns over the electoral process and outlining mutual support at a provincial level.

According to Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, after PTI reached out post-election, JI’s Ameer in Pakistan swiftly convened with the central leadership to form a committee led by Liaquat Baloch, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Ameer Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim and Deputy Ameer Inayatullah Khan. This committee engaged with PTI leaders, including Barrister Gohar Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Umar Ayub Khan, and Mohammad Azam Khan Swati, to discuss the electoral situation.

Baloch communicated JI’s serious apprehensions about the integrity of the 2024 elections, emphasizing that any manipulation of results would tarnish democracy and harm national interests. Despite these concerns, JI expressed readiness for unconditional cooperation with PTI, particularly in supporting elected representatives who won through public mandate and upholding democratic principles.

Initially, PTI signaled a desire for cooperation specifically within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with no intention of extending this collaboration to the national level. JI, after internal deliberation, resolved that a national alliance would serve the country’s interest. However, following PTI’s revised stance, JI declared its respect for PTI’s decision to pursue its interests independently within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This development indicates a willingness among Pakistani political parties to engage in strategic partnerships, although the extent of such cooperation remains confined to regional politics.
