Larkana, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed a press conference in Meero Khan town of Qambar-Shahdadkot district, expressing concerns over the denial of the PPP’s election symbol (Arrow) to many of their candidates in Punjab. He accused the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) of trying to monopolize the political field by keeping opponents out.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that the PPP’s election campaign had been ongoing for a significant period, indicating that elections were approaching. He emphasized the PPP’s trust in the people and its manifesto, which centers on the belief that the source of power is the people.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed to the 10-point “People’s Economic Agreement” as the solution to Pakistan’s pressing issues of inflation, unemployment, and poverty. He stressed that politics should serve the people, solve their problems, and represent them, in contrast to the divisive politics practiced by some.
Regarding the floods in 2022, the PPP chairman termed them a significant issue in Sindh, noting that they had caused extensive damage, including the destruction of thousands of houses and 50 percent of government schools in the province. He mentioned his efforts as Foreign Minister to rally international support and secure funding for flood victim rehabilitation. However, he expressed concerns about obstacles hindering this work, despite assurances from various quarters.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari highlighted the lack of a level playing field in the upcoming general elections, particularly in Punjab. He claimed that the Punjab administration, influenced by the PML-N, was targeting PPP candidates and denying them the arrow symbol. He mentioned specific candidates who were affected by this and noted that the ECP had been approached on the matter.
The PPP chairman shared his election campaign schedule, including plans to address rallies in various cities. He called on the people to support the PPP in the elections, framing it as a choice between the arrow and the lion, symbolizing the PPP and PML-N, respectively.
In response to a question, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari dismissed the idea of postponing the elections, citing Chief Justice Qazi Faiz’s declaration that elections would proceed as scheduled. He asserted that those who sought to delay or evade election results would face consequences.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that implementing the 10-point “People’s Economic Agreement” would be a top priority if the PPP won the elections. He also outlined plans for participatory budgeting through “Open Kachehris” and highlighted the importance of building a new dam in Qambar Shahdadkot district to protect the area from recurring floods.
The press conference was attended by PPP leaders, including PPP Women Wing Central President Faryal Talpur and PPP Sindh chapter President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro.
