Politics Cannot Control Weather: Collective Action Needed For Climate Change, Says PPP

Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Central Information Secretary Shazia Marri emphasized that political parties cannot manipulate weather patterns, and collaborative initiatives are crucial to tackle the significant repercussions of climate change. Addressing the recent downpours in Karachi and Sindh, Marri stated that natural calamities are unavoidable but manageable with adequate preparation and planning. She emphasized that the PPP, elected to serve Karachi and Sindh, has consistently supported its constituents during challenging periods and will continue to do so.

Marri noted that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari maintained constant communication with authorities during the rainfall emergency, while the Sindh Chief Minister directly oversaw drainage activities in Karachi. Pre-monsoon sewer maintenance and repairs, initiated months prior, helped mitigate a more severe predicament. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab worked diligently around the clock during the rains, preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome.

Acknowledging citizens’ difficulties, Marri assured them of the provincial government’s full support. She criticized certain political factions for engaging solely in disapproval, despite public rejection. These opponents confined themselves to statements even during the challenging circumstances. All available assets and personnel were deployed for public security and aid endeavors. Marri compared Karachi’s relatively swift drainage to flooding in developed cities worldwide during similar downpours.

She encouraged media coverage of not only the obstacles but also the cleared and drained zones to demonstrate the tangible advancements. Marri reiterated the PPP’s unwavering dedication to serving the people of Sindh and Karachi.
