Lahore, The Professional Education Foundation (PEF) held a ceremony distributing scholarships to deserving students at the Punjab University Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. The event was attended by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Dean Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, PEF’s scholarship program head Ma’rab Bashir, faculty members, and a plethora of students.
According to a news release by University of the Punjab, During the ceremony, Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood emphasized the significance of supporting deserving students, particularly given the rising education expenses due to the country’s inflation. He lauded philanthropists and donors for their contributions and encouraged students to always look for ways to assist others. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar discussed the memorandum signed with PEF in 2022, facilitating scholarships for 400 brilliant FCIT students every year, covering university fees and hostel expenses. He highlighted Mr. Asad Jamal’s generous contributions, who after attending the London School of Economics and settling in Silicon Valley, USA, became a significant donor for PEF.
Ma’rab Bashir outlined PEF’s broader vision, mentioning that currently, scholarships are extended to brilliant students across 41 universities in Pakistan. In 2022-23 alone, the foundation disbursed two-hundred million rupees, supporting 2650 professional education students. The foundation’s alumni, now numbering over 2700 professionals, are actively contributing to these scholarships. The event culminated with the inauguration of the PEF Lounge at Punjab University’s Old Campus.
