Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled its domestic cricket calendar for the 2025-26 season, emphasizing increased competitiveness and merit-based progression, with the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy serving as the marquee event. The new structure introduces qualifying stages and opportunities across both regional and departmental tournaments.
The domestic season kicks off on August 15 with the Hanif Mohammad Trophy, a non-first-class tournament involving 12 regional teams, including Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore Region Blues. The competition will take place across Karachi, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.
The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, beginning on September 22, will include eight teams, featuring Lahore Region Whites and Islamabad, alongside two qualifying teams from the Hanif Mohammad Trophy. The tournament will be held in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, culminating in the final from November 3 to 7.
In a move to enhance competitiveness, a qualifying stage for the National T20 has been introduced. Ten teams, such as Abbottabad and Multan, will compete for spots in the Super 10 stage, scheduled for March 1 to 12 in Faisalabad. The Super 10 will automatically include top teams like Karachi Region Whites and Peshawar.
The domestic season will also feature departmental tournaments, including the President’s Trophy and President’s Cup, ensuring departments remain integral to Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem.
PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Sumair Ahmed Syed, emphasized the board’s commitment to a merit-based system that rewards performance. “Our aim is to create a vibrant environment where players are constantly challenged,” Syed stated.
Director of Domestic Cricket Operations, Abdullah Khurram Niazi, highlighted the development pathways for young cricketers, noting the inclusion of U15, U17, and U19 tournaments as essential for nurturing future stars.
The PCB’s comprehensive calendar, with its focus on competitiveness and development, sets the stage for a dynamic cricket season aimed at bolstering the quality and depth of talent in Pakistan.
