Pakistani President Calls for International Action on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day

Islamabad: President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, marked the 95th Kashmir Martyrs' Day by paying tribute to the 22 Kashmiris who lost their lives in 1931 during a confrontation with Dogra forces. In his message, he highlighted the ongoing struggle of the Kashmiri people against what he described as India's illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari's message underscored the continued presence of a substantial Indian military force in the region, which he claims perpetuates the occupation. He criticized India's actions on August 5, 2019, which he argued have attempted to alter the demographic makeup of the region and strip Kashmiris of their identity. The President noted that the removal of Kashmir Martyrs' Day as a public holiday and the discontinuation of the Guard of Honour ceremony further aggravate the situation.

President Zardari called for an end to what he described as India's repression in the region and urged the release of political prisoners. He appealed to the international community to play a role in protecting human rights within Jammu and Kashmir and to support efforts for a peaceful resolution in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In closing, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to supporting the Kashmiri struggle and expressed hopes for a future where the people of Jammu and Kashmir can freely determine their destiny.
