Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for an integrated approach to the proposed development of Keti Bunder Port, stressing that the project should be supported by reliable road connectivity, power and water supply, industrial infrastructure, and other essential facilities.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the President made these remarks during a presentation on the proposed development by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). He welcomed the Chinese delegation and acknowledged China's interest in supporting Pakistan's infrastructure and maritime development efforts.

President Zardari highlighted the potential of Keti Bunder as an additional maritime gateway that could enhance Pakistan's port and logistics network, facilitating greater connectivity and trade. He emphasized the importance of technical coordination between the Chinese team and Pakistani authorities.

Environmental sustainability, particularly the protection of the Indus Delta ecosystem and the local fishing communities' livelihoods, was also underscored by the President. He encouraged ongoing technical discussions to refine the master plan and establish an effective implementation and financing framework.

The Chinese delegation presented a Conceptual Master Plan for Keti Bunder Port, proposing a new deep-water maritime gateway with multiple terminals and supporting infrastructure. The Phase-I development envisions a multi-purpose terminal with a 500-meter quay, with an engineering cost estimate of approximately $522.34 million.

The Chinese delegation included Mr. Wu Ping, Chief Representative of CHEC in Pakistan, Mr. Wang Zongde, Head of Marketing Department, and Mr. Xu Tielin, Engineer, along with Mr. Ali Raza, GM of Strategy and Marketing. Notable attendees at the meeting included Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and several key senators and ministers.
