Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari marked Minorities Day by emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding minority rights, reflecting on the vision of the nation’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Zardari reiterated the importance of equality, harmony, and mutual respect for all citizens.

The occasion served to recognize the contributions of minority communities to Pakistan’s nation-building efforts. These communities have played roles in the armed forces, judiciary, civil services, education, and healthcare, contributing to the country’s development and progress.

The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights to all citizens, regardless of religion, caste, creed, or color, and safeguards the interests of minorities across political, economic, religious, social, and cultural spheres.

Pakistan remains committed to combating discrimination, extremism, and religious intolerance, with an aim to build a society free from prejudice. The country views diversity as a strength and is focused on mutual respect, interfaith harmony, and shared progress.

Efforts for minority welfare include the establishment of the National Commission for Minorities, allocation of a Minorities Welfare Fund, and the preservation of places of worship. Scholarships and financial support for minority students are also part of these measures.

Minorities Day, declared in 2009 during Zardari’s first tenure as President, reaffirms the nation’s commitment to equality and inclusion. Pakistan continues to promote interfaith dialogue and ensure the participation of minorities in national life.
