Karachi: The “Battle for Truth” Independence Day celebrations are underway at Dow University of Health Sciences, with the main ceremony scheduled for Thursday, August 14. The festivities began on August 1 with intra-DUHS indoor games at the Gymnasium, continuing until August 13.
Under the auspices of the Literary and Debating Society of DUHS, a grand All-Karachi Quiz Competition titled Battle for Truth – Resolute Spirit 3.0 was held at the Dow College of Pharmacy, Ojha Campus. Students from various universities and institutions across Karachi participated enthusiastically in this inter-university competition. The quiz, featuring academic, historical, and general knowledge topics, saw participants display their intellect, quick thinking, and deep connection with national history.
The chief guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shameem, Principal and Dean of Dow College of Pharmacy, while the panel of judges included Mr. Nasir Ali and Ms. Subaria Khan. Teams from various institutions competed, with the Dow College of Pharmacy team emerging as the winner, Dow College of Biotechnology securing second place, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University’s team taking third place. The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners and commended their academic efforts.
In her concluding remarks, Principal Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shameem described the program as highly successful and impressive, praising its quality. Speakers at the event paid tribute to the national heroes, stating that August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day, serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by valiant souls to achieve freedom.
Earlier, on August 2, the National Songs Competition commenced, followed by a debate competition on August 4 at the Ojha Campus on the theme Land of Heroes. On August 6, a poetry recital (Mushaira) was held, where students presented verses inspired by Battle for Truth, United Front, and the creation of Pakistan. On August 7, an art competition showcased the creative works of students, and on August 8, a parliamentary debate took place.
In the main Independence Day ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jehan Ara Hassan will present awards to students who demonstrated outstanding performance in various competitions. On this occasion, selected poetry, speeches, artworks, and national songs by students will also be presented.
