Pakistan and South Africa Gear Up for World Cup as Brits and Amin Shine

Lahore: The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is fast approaching, and both Pakistan and South Africa are showcasing formidable form, largely driven by their stellar top-order batting performances. The recent ODI series between these two teams has highlighted their readiness, with South Africa sealing a series win with a 25-run victory in Lahore, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.

South Africa’s triumph was powered by their captain, Laura Wolvaardt, alongside her opening partner Tazmin Brits, who delivered an extraordinary performance, scoring an unbeaten 171 off 141 balls. This innings, which earned Brits the Player of the Match accolade, was her third consecutive century in ODI cricket, further solidifying her status as a key player for the Proteas.

The partnership between Brits and Wolvaardt has been prolific since the last Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2022, accumulating 1536 runs across 26 innings with an impressive average of 59.07. Their synergy at the crease is expected to be a significant asset for South Africa as they prepare to face England in their World Cup opener on October 3 in Guwahati.

Despite losing the series, Pakistan can draw encouragement from the performances of Sidra Amin. Amin has struck two consecutive centuries in the series, placing her as the second-highest run-scorer behind Brits. Her consistency and experience, having previously scored a century in the 2022 World Cup, will be crucial for Pakistan as they aim to make an impact in the tournament.

Pakistan’s World Cup journey begins against Bangladesh on October 2 in Colombo. As both sides finalize their preparations, the performances of Brits and Amin are set to be pivotal for their respective teams in the upcoming global event.
