Akhunzada Chitan Urges Implementation of National Action Plan as Terrorism Resurges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, Akhunzada Chitan, a leader of the Pakistan People’s Party and a former Member of the Assembly, has expressed concern over the resurgence of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging the Chief Minister to call a meeting of the KP Assembly. He emphasized the need to implement the National Action Plan to address the growing threat of terrorism and recommended that the president call a representative Jirga to find solutions.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Chitan blamed the resurgence of terrorism on the wrong policies of the state and criticized the provincial government for its failure to act. He stated that the KP Chief Minister has not called the KP Assembly meeting, while protests and rallies are being organized for party interests instead of addressing critical issues. Chitan also highlighted that schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lack proper books and that the province’s police force lacks adequate support, with many officers martyred in recent terrorist attacks.

Chitan called for significant funding from the federal government to support the rehabilitation of the province, suggesting an annual fund of 100 billion rupees. He criticized the previous administration for mismanagement, stating that the mineral-rich province has been hollowed out, with debt increasing from 35 billion to 1,000 billion rupees over the past decade. He urged the KP Chief Minister and governor to take swift action to address terrorism and proposed calling a representative Jirga for the worst-affected areas.

Akhunzada Chitan suggested that the province should follow Benazir Bhutto’s 3D formula to control terrorism, which involves taking the public, parliament, and heirs of martyrs into confidence during negotiations. He concluded by urging the implementation of the National Action Plan to bring stability to the region.

Health Ministry Urged to Tackle Malaria and Corruption Termites, Says PDP Karachi Chief Organizer

Karachi, The Ministry of Health should take proactive steps to combat epidemic diseases like malaria and dengue, while also addressing systemic corruption, said Tariq Chandiwala, Chief Organizer of Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Karachi. Chandiwala highlighted the need for immediate action, suggesting that air and water disinfectants should be sprayed to prevent the spread of these diseases.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Chandiwala criticized the Sindh government and city administration for not taking sanitation and public health seriously, leading to an increase in malaria and dengue cases. He noted that piles of garbage, sewage, and wastewater ponds contribute to the breeding of disease-carrying mosquitoes. The deteriorating sanitation conditions in Karachi have led to hospitals becoming overcrowded with malaria and dengue patients, with inadequate facilities in government hospitals forcing many to seek expensive private treatment.

Chandiwala called for the overhauling of the outdated sewage system and urged all government institutions working in Karachi, including the Cantonment Board and local civic bodies, to work together to improve sanitation and public health. He suggested that the government take immediate steps to protect citizens from further epidemics by focusing on drainage and sanitation, pointing out that poor sanitation has contributed to the spread of malaria and dengue.

On the occasion of World Malaria Day, Chandiwala emphasized that protecting the health of the public is a primary responsibility of the government, and the current state of Karachi’s sewage system is a significant problem. He noted that Pasban has consistently highlighted this issue, and failure to address it has resulted in a surge of patients in hospitals.

Chandiwala concluded by emphasizing that concrete measures are needed to tackle the health crisis and reduce the burden on citizens, who are suffering not only from diseases like malaria and dengue but also from the high costs of medical treatment due to the failures of the public healthcare system.
