Nowshera Voter Registration Rate Reaches 52%, Slightly Below National Average

Nowshera: Voter registration in Nowshera has reached 52% of the district's estimated 2025 population, trailing the national registration rate of 54%.

According to the Free and Fair Election Network, the figures are based on district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on December 30, 2025. The data was cross-referenced with population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The population estimate for 2025 was calculated using a 2.28% inter-censal annual growth rate, applied to Nowshera's 2023 census base population of 1,740,705, resulting in an estimated population of 1,820,986. The registration rate was determined by dividing the number of registered voters by the estimated population.

The district of Nowshera currently has 953,551 registered voters, comprising 509,203 males, accounting for 53.4%, and 444,348 females, making up 46.6%. Male voter registration stands at 55% of the estimated population, while female registration is at 50%. Nationally, Nowshera ranks 56th out of 136 districts by population size and is represented by two Members of the National Assembly. In terms of voter registration rate, it ranks 65th nationally and 24th within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa out of 35 districts.

The lower registration rate in Nowshera is attributed to the pattern observed in districts that receive population influx from surrounding areas. In-migrants often remain registered in their original localities despite being enumerated in Nowshera during the census. This trend is exacerbated in some Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts by security-related or economic displacement, where populations counted at temporary locations may still be registered in their districts of origin.

The gender composition of the registered electorate in Nowshera shows that female voters constitute 46.6%, highlighting a gender gap of 6.8%. Emphasizing the need for targeted registration outreach for women, it remains a priority to address this gap before the upcoming general elections.
