New Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York to Host T20 World Cup Matches

New York, The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York will host eight matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, including the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash on June 9. The newly constructed 34,000-seat modular stadium is an innovative addition to the world of cricket.

According to International Cricket Council, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium represents a significant milestone in cricket infrastructure. The stadium’s construction is currently underway and is expected to be completed in just three months, in time for the T20 World Cup matches. It boasts a wide array of seating options, including premium and general admission, VIP and hospitality suites, as well as a party deck and cabanas.

The project emphasizes sustainability by repurposing grandstands used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The design team, led by Populous, is renowned for creating iconic stadia globally, such as the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. They have also been the architect of record for New York Yankees and New York Mets.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed excitement about the unveiling of the stadium, highlighting its capacity to accommodate 34,000 cricket fans and its role in hosting the biggest ICC event ever. The ICC is collaborating with world-class suppliers to ensure an unforgettable experience for players and fans during the eight matches in New York.

The stadium will offer a comprehensive experience with a dedicated fan zone, diverse food and beverage outlets, and advanced media and broadcast areas. The wicket, a drop-in square currently being curated in Florida, will be transported to New York in early May.

Located 30 miles east of Manhattan, the venue is accessible by good transport and parking facilities, with three train stations in the vicinity. The stadium will kick off the T20 World Cup matches with Sri Lanka facing South Africa on June 3, providing fans with a historic opportunity to witness a festival of cricket featuring the world’s best players.
