Lahore, A senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Musrat Jamshed Cheema, called for a thorough investigation into the allocation of special seats in the national and provincial assemblies, emphasizing that these positions should not be treated as spoils to be divided among parties. Cheema advocated for the country’s governance as per the constitution, laws, and regulations, which he believes is currently not being upheld. This statement came amid criticisms of the assembly meetings’ scheduling and the controversial handling of seats designated for women and minorities.
According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Cheema highlighted the need for a commission to investigate the events of May 9, to clearly delineate the truth of the situation. He expressed concern over the political marginalization of PTI and the underrepresentation of women and minorities in legislative bodies, pointing out that the current practices contravene constitutional mandates. The PTI leader accused the Muslim League (N) and People’s Party of compromising the constitution and democracy, which he believes undermines the foundation of the country’s democratic institutions. Cheema called for an end to unconstitutional practices for the sake of personal gain, warning against provoking public unrest through such actions.
The demand for an investigative commission into the May 9 events underlines PTI’s long-standing commitment to transparency and accountability in political processes. Cheema’s statements reflect a broader concern within PTI about the integrity of the country’s democratic framework and the treatment of constitutionally guaranteed seats in the legislature.
