Lahore, In a critical meeting held in Mansoora, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib Amir, Liaquat Baloch, along with Provincial Food Minister Punjab Bilal Yasin and other agricultural leaders, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s current wheat purchasing practices. Baloch claimed the government’s statements on buying wheat directly from farmers at fixed prices are misleading and insufficient to address the farmers’ needs.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Baloch argued that the government’s purchasing strategy falls short, particularly criticizing the ineffectiveness of the Kisan Card system, which he likened to other less effective social support cards. He announced plans for a protest outside the Punjab Chief Minister’s office, emphasizing that the peaceful demonstration would underscore the farmers’ legitimate demands. This stance is supported by the party’s top leadership, with Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rahman expected to announce the protest date soon.
The meeting also addressed the broader political landscape, with Baloch critiquing the events of May 9, which he described as a departure from principled politics, leading to heightened political crises. He called for a national dialogue to restore political stability and urged political and democratic forces to respect constitutional boundaries.
Furthermore, Baloch condemned the recent violence against lawyers by the Punjab government and police, describing it as a failure of the government’s conflict resolution strategies. He also criticized the government’s reliance on loans from international financial bodies like the IMF and World Bank, suggesting that these measures are unknown to both the public and parliament and exacerbate the country’s economic plight through increased debt and corruption.
