Lahore Convenes Meeting to Enhance Women’s Protection and Support

Lahore, A crucial meeting chaired by Punjab’s Minister of Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal, Sohail Shaukat Butt, was held to discuss the protection and rehabilitation of women, focusing on the full implementation of the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016. High-level officials, including police representatives and district women protection officers, gathered to strengthen strategies and support mechanisms for women facing violence.

According to Social Welfare Department, the meeting aimed to bolster the implementation of the 2016 act through close collaboration with the police department. Key decisions included the training of women protection officers by the police, the introduction of a dedicated helpline for women victims of violence, and the establishment of women protection centers at the tehsil level. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to ensure effective response and support systems are in place for women in need across Punjab.

The meeting underscored the commitment of various governmental bodies to create a safer and more supportive environment for women, addressing the urgent need for protective and rehabilitative services at the local level.
