Karachi, Javed Yusuf, a senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) minority wing and a councilor of Baldia Uzma Karachi, has strongly condemned recent violent incidents targeting the Christian community in Sargodha, calling for immediate justice and an end to religious fanaticism.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Yusuf voiced his concerns over the increasing attacks on Christians in various cities of Punjab, labeling them as a deliberate attempt by some factions within the country to narrow the space for minority communities through religious fanaticism. He criticized the role of local authorities and some religious leaders in exacerbating the situation, particularly highlighting an incident in Sargodha where the police allegedly remained passive during the attacks.
Yusuf urged the Punjab government, led by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to conduct a thorough probe into the Sargodha incident and address the broader issue of daily assaults on the Christian minority. He also called for the prosecution of those responsible, both visible and behind-the-scenes, and requested financial aid for the victims to support their recovery and justice efforts.
