KARACHI: The voter registration rate in Karachi East stands at 41%, significantly lower than the national average of 54%, according to recent statistics. With its estimated 2025 population at over 4.3 million, the district ranks 112th nationally in voter registration rate and 28th within Sindh.
According to the Free and Fair Election Network, these figures are based on district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025, in conjunction with population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. Karachi East, represented by four Members of the National Assembly, has approximately 1.8 million registered voters, with an equal 41% registration rate among males and females.
The low registration rate is attributed to a common urban pattern in Pakistan, where in-migrants are counted in local census figures but remain registered to vote in their origin districts. This discrepancy results in an inflated population denominator for Karachi East, leading to a lower voter-to-population ratio than the national average. Additionally, targeted registration campaigns for women, who represent 47.2% of the registered voters, are needed as the district prepares for upcoming general elections.
