Karachi, The cricket teams of Karachi have been lauded for their exceptional performance this season, winning major tournaments including the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, T20, and U-19 tournaments, and securing runner-up positions in the U-19 three-day and National ODI Cups. This success has highlighted the immense talent within the city, though concerns were raised about the lack of representation of Karachi players at the national level. Dr. Junaid Ali Shah, the caretaker provincial sports minister of Sindh, expressed these views during a celebration ceremony, emphasizing the city’s contribution to cricket and the perceived injustice towards players like Sarfaraz Ahmed.
According to Regional Cricket Association Karachi, the ceremony, which took place at a local hotel, saw Dr. Junaid Ali Shah praising Nadim Omar, President of the Regional Cricket Association Karachi, for his efforts in promoting cricket in the region. Omar, in response, expressed his desire to see more players from Karachi represent the national team and announced plans to send a Karachi team on international tours to enhance their skills. Syed Irshad Ahmad Gilani, Vice President of RCAK, revealed ambitions to establish Karachi’s prominence in cricket, including opportunities to play in the United States.
The event also featured acknowledgments and rewards for players and officials, with Dr. Junaid Ali Shah distributing a total of 15 lakh rupees in cash prizes and shields on behalf of Nadim Omar. Additionally, a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to former president KCCA Syed Siraj-ul-Islam Bukhari, with commemorative shields given to zonal presidents, secretaries, and treasurers, recognizing their contributions to cricket in Karachi. The ceremony was attended by notable figures such as test captain Shan Masood, former test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, and other distinguished guests from the cricketing community.
