Islamia University Initiates Mental Health Week with Dr. Amjad Tufail Leading Opening Talk

Bahawalpur, 11 Oct 2023:With the laudable intent to amplify awareness and diminish the stigma tethered to mental health, the Department of Applied Psychology at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur inaugurated their Mental Health Week, an initiative bustling with activities curated to foster psychological well-being among students, faculty, and the community at large. The initiative, which set in motion on Friday, was heralded by an enlightening interactive talk delivered by guest speaker Dr. Amjad Tufail from MAO College Lahore, who illuminated mental health from a nuanced Muslim perspective, acting as a prelude to a week interspersed with a myriad of mental health-centric activities.

The auspicious opening talk by Dr. Tufail, a respected figure in the sphere of psychology, marked the commencement of a week slated to intertwine a series of activities including a Mental Health Drive, the inauguration of Psychological Assessment Camps, a Poster Competition, walk-in Psychological Assessment Camps, and Theatre Time featuring animated movies and short films pivotal to psychology and mental health understanding. Additionally, a ‘Psych Wall’ has been conceived, providing a space for the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) community to articulate their perceptions and experiences pertaining to mental health issues.

Under the meticulous observation and guidance of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman of the Department of Applied Psychology, the Mental Health Week aims to weave a tapestry of understanding, empathy, and informed awareness among the community. Dr. Saleem’s avid dedication and expertise are channelized towards ensuring the success and pervasive impact of the events, with the hope that the week will not only uplift individuals grappling with mental health challenges but also architect a society that is inclusively compassionate and adeptly supportive in matters of psychological well-being.
