Madrid, The ESMO 2023 conference in Madrid has become the focal point for ground-breaking discussions on novel approaches to cancer treatment, with a particular emphasis on brain tumours.
According to a news release by Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, a prominent neurophysician from Pakistan and the President of Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan, was present at the conference. She contributed insights on advancements in treating brain tumors, including the potential benefits of combining licorice with aloe to mitigate skin damage during chemotherapy sessions.
In the neuro-oncology segment of the event, Dr. Siddiqui elaborated on the intricacies of neurophysiology in the context of brain tumor removal. She emphasized the challenges faced due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier – a protective layer around the brain that obstructs external chemicals. This barrier poses difficulties in ensuring chemotherapy drugs effectively reach brain tumors. A proposed solution to this challenge involves using ultrasound waves to enhance the permeability of this protective shield, facilitating chemotherapy access to the brain.
Dr. Siddiqui highlighted that ongoing research and collaborations are taking place globally, with Pakistan being actively involved in these efforts.
