IIUI Crowns Champions in Football and Cricket at 2023 Sports Gala

Islamabad, The International Islamic University (IIU) culminated its Sports Gala 2023 cricket tournament, with the Faculty of Languages and Literature (FLL) claiming victory over the Faculty of Management Science. Alongside the cricket triumph, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology emerged as champions in the football competition, leaving the Faculty of Arabic as runners-up.

According to a news release by International Islamic University, the ongoing Sports Gala, orchestrated by the Directorate of Students Advisor, encompasses not only the recent cricket and football events but also boasts more than 30 additional sports contests. The event, managed by the sports section of the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, has seen participation from approximately 1000 students across 11 university faculties. The gala, set to wrap up on the 25th of October, includes an array of contests ranging from tug of war, table tennis, badminton, and volleyball to basketball, hockey, chess, and athletics.

The cricket final witnessed distinguished attendees, including representatives from the All Pakistan Newspapers and Electronic Media Employees Confederation (APNEC), namely senior sports journalist Zahid Farooq Malik and Syed Mujtaba Rizwan. Expressing his sentiments, Siddique Anzar lauded the IIUI sports gala as a significant occasion, emphasizing the crucial role sports play in enhancing the mental and physical well-being of the youth. He commended IIUI, one of the esteemed educational institutions, for its dedication to fostering such constructive events. Renowned journalist Zahid Farooq Malik also played the role of match commentator, reiterating the significance of sporting activities during the event.

Preceding the cricket finale, the football championship was honoured by the presence of the President of the FUTSAL Association, a noted journalist who expressed his eagerness to provide training to the victorious faculty via the Pakistan Sports Board. He underscored the value of integrating sports into both educational and real-world settings. Also marking their presence at the event were Dr. Ghufran Ali Khan, Students Advisor, and Dr. Muhammad Khalid Chaudhary, Incharge of sports at IIU.
