Global Initiative Seeks Journalists to Document Climate Change Through Video

Karachi, Old News and Earth Journalism Network (EJN) have launched a new funding initiative to encourage video journalists around the world to document the varied impacts and solutions related to climate change. Offering stipends between 500 and 1000 USD, the project aims to create a comprehensive library of Creative Commons footage accessible for media use.

According to Pak NGOs, this effort is supported by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network and The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), aiming to enhance global climate change coverage. By compensating journalists for capturing high-quality video clips, the project addresses financial constraints that often limit on-field reporting, particularly in regions like Asia Pacific, though it is open to contributions from global journalists as well.

The initiative prioritizes journalists who propose to document their local environments, focusing on a broad range of climate-related subjects from renewable energy to extreme weather impacts. Selected participants will be required to produce at least 25 distinct video clips, each 15-20 seconds long, which will need to meet specific technical criteria for stability, exposure, and resolution.

This project seeks to diversify and enrich the visual resources available to journalists covering environmental issues, thereby fostering more nuanced and locally-informed reporting on the global challenge of climate change.
