Karachi Faces Waste Management Crisis, Political Party Claims

Karachi, Tariq Chandiwala, the chief organizer of Karachi for the Pasban Democratic Party, has criticized the People’s Party for failing to effectively manage the city’s garbage and utilize it for commercial purposes. As per Chandiwala, despite the potential for generating revenue by selling waste to private entities, corruption and mismanagement have hampered efforts to address the city’s growing sanitation and health crises.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the situation in Karachi has reached a critical point with improper waste disposal contributing to the outbreak of diseases such as malaria and dengue, exacerbated by the recent rains. Chandiwala argued that other cities globally have successfully converted waste into energy and other products, suggesting that privatization could benefit the Sindh government financially while improving public health standards.

The party’s press release pointed to systemic issues within local governance, accusing the People’s Party leaders of negligence and corruption, particularly in the allocation of funds for epidemic prevention such as mosquito spraying and medical supplies. The statement also emphasized the dire conditions in hospitals filled with patients suffering from vector-borne diseases, urging immediate action from Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab to mitigate the spread of infections.
