Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced with regret the passing of former Test cricketer Farooq Hameed, who died at the age of 80. Hameed, known for being Pakistan’s Test cap number 48, played a single Test match for the country against Australia in December 1964 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. During this match, he claimed the wicket of former Australia captain Ian Chappell, which stood as his only Test wicket.
Hameed was a right-arm fast bowler whose cricket career spanned from 1961 to 1970. During this period, he participated in 43 first-class matches, taking 111 wickets at an average of 25.21. His performance included three five-wicket hauls, marking him as a notable figure in Pakistan’s cricket history.
The cricket community mourns the loss of Hameed, remembering his contributions to the sport and his role in representing Pakistan on an international level.
