Film Trilogy Explores the Indus River Through Art and Ecology

Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s Fine Arts Committee organized a screening of the film trilogy “The River Sublime” at the Josh Malihabadi Library. The event included a discussion session, engaging attendees with the themes presented in the film.

“The River Sublime” explores the ecological and cultural significance of the Indus River through the artistic perspectives of three creators: Nadeem-Al-Karimi, Sadqain Riaz, and Qadir Jhatiyal. The film, curated by Nusrat Khawaja, runs for 26 minutes and features three distinct ecosystems of the river, depicted both philosophically and poetically.

The trilogy aims to raise awareness about the environmental challenges facing the Indus River. It highlights its natural beauty and the cultural contexts surrounding it. Nusrat Khawaja explained that the film illustrates the pollution affecting the river, symbolized by an artist caught between natural and industrial elements.

During the discussion, Atiqa Malik emphasized the collaborative effort behind the film, which took three months to complete. Bushra Hussain noted that the unique ideas of each artist contributed to the film’s formation, underscoring the collective process that brought “The River Sublime” to life.

The event illuminated the critical need for conservation efforts, inviting reflection on the environmental and cultural importance of the Indus River.
