Lahore, Fatima Jinnah Medical University organized an International Awareness Seminar on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in observance of World COPD Day. The event, under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, featured Dr. Javed Kayani from the University of Birmingham as the chief guest.
According to Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, the seminar aimed to raise awareness about COPD, a preventable and treatable disease. Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal highlighted smoking as a primary risk factor for COPD in adults over 40. Dr. Javed Kayani provided insights into career opportunities in the UK and discussed asthma, its risks in smokers and allergy patients, and the importance of preventive measures against air pollution. He commended the university for its excellence in medical education.
Dr. Tamim Tahir, Senior Registrar of the Pulmonology Department, presented the latest guidelines on COPD, discussing diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment. Prof. Aysha Rashid briefed participants on smoking cessation techniques. The event concluded with Vice Chancellor Prof. Gondal awarding shields to the chief guest and participants and organizing an awareness walk, underscoring the university’s commitment to educating on important health issues.
