Exhibition of Pakistani Defense Equipment Sparks National Debate

Karachi: The recent exhibition showcasing Pakistan-made defense equipment, including drones, has stirred both national pride and controversy. Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, president of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan and the National Unity Council, highlighted that the exhibition has significantly boosted national morale and fostered a sense of self-reliance among the populace.

According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, while the exhibition has been a source of pride, it has also raised questions regarding the country’s defense procurement policies. The announcement of an overseas order for four new ships has dampened the public’s enthusiasm, as it contrasts with the country’s ability to produce advanced defense equipment. Dr. Zubair questioned why Pakistan, capable of manufacturing cutting-edge defense technologies, finds itself needing to procure ships from abroad, especially during a period when the International Monetary Fund is imposing conditions to reduce national expenditures.

Dr. Zubair urged the government to address these concerns, emphasizing the need for transparency. He warned against potential mismanagement akin to past scandals, where domestic capabilities were overlooked in favor of financial gain. The government’s response to these procurement decisions, he argued, should be immediate and informative to prevent further public discontent.
