Peshawar, The Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) held a tripartite meeting in Peshawar, emphasizing the importance of the Multinational Enterprises (MNE) Declaration for enterprises, government bodies, workers, and employer organizations. The meeting, led by former EFP President Majyd Aziz, focused on the Declaration’s role in enhancing training, employment, working conditions, and labor standards.
According to Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, the MNE Declaration is pivotal in guiding multinational companies in Pakistan towards better social and labor impacts, contributing to the achievement of Decent Work. He called for the support of employer organizations and the facilitation of labor unions, alongside urging the government to ratify International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Harassment and Violence at the Workplace.
Faker Alam, Secretary Labor KP, recognized EFP’s efforts in promoting the Declaration’s principles. Dr. Yousuf Sarwar, Chairman EFP KP, stated that the meeting aimed to raise awareness among stakeholders about responsible business practices. He appreciated the ILO’s support in organizing the program and promoting social dialogue.
Razam Khan, President Pakistan Workers Federation KP, highlighted the need for bilateral dialogue to address economic challenges and the inadequacy of the skills development system in the province. Muhammad Iqbal, President Mutthaida Labor Federation KP, emphasized the MNE Declaration’s role in achieving decent work and compliance with labor laws.
Mr. Ishaq, former president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, urged enterprises to adopt the MNE Declaration and comply with international labor standards. Muhammad Irfan, Director Labor, stressed the importance of social dialogue and informed of the government’s efforts in protecting workers’ rights and supporting enterprise productivity.
The meeting also featured addresses from Mr. Ashfaq, DG EOBI, Mr. Raziq, Director Social Security, Humayun Nazir, Director EFP, and Syed Nazar Ali, Secretary General EFP, focusing on various aspects of labor standards and enterprise sustainability.
