Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui Calls for Continued Support from Jamaat-e-Islami in Efforts to Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

Karachi, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement and a noted neurophysician, congratulated Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on his recent election as the central Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami. She expressed hopes that under his leadership, the party would intensify its efforts to secure the release and return of her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who has been detained since 2003.

According to Aafia Movement, Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui highlighted the longstanding support of Jamaat-e-Islami for her family during Dr. Aafia’s detainment, which involved the abduction of her three children and their alleged transfer to American authorities. She underlined 2024 as a critical year for efforts aiming at Dr. Aafia’s release. Clive Stafford-Smith, the lawyer handling Dr. Aafia’s case, has expressed optimism about securing her release by the end of the year, noting that significant decisions regarding her case reside with authorities in Islamabad. Dr. Fawzia called for increased cooperation from various parties and institutions involved in religious, political, human rights, and social welfare activities to support this cause.
