Department of Psychology Organized Symposium on “Contemporary Trends in Psychology”

Islamabad, March 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): A symposium on “Contemporary trends in Psychology” was organized by Department of Psychology on 1st March 2023 from 11.00- 2.00 pm. The event organizers were Ms. Sadaf Zeb, (Senior Lecturer) and Ms. Ayesha Aneeq (Lecturer), in Psychology Department. The Guest speakers were Dr. Rubina Hanif, Dr. Sajida Naz, Dr. Saima Kulsoom and Dr. Rayna Sadia. All the eminent guests had versatile expertise and experiences in teaching, research, publications, and supervisions.

 

This educational program was mainly designed to educate and envision students about Contemporary trends in Psychology. The main objective of the event was to bring experts from various domains of Psychology on one platform and give our students an exposure of industry and practical fields. The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and a welcome note by Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar Farooq (HOD of English department) at Capital University of Sciences and Technology.

 

The Guest speakers provided extensive knowledge on the topic. Dr. Sajida Naz chose to talk about Post-COVID trends in Psychology and how we have grown personally and professionally after this immense change of life style. She highlighted topics such as work from home issues, kicking out stigmas, frontiers in neurosciences, and mental health of children.

 

Dr. Rubina Hanif focused on the concept of Digital Era and psychological challenges. She discussed topics including education in digital era, media skills of students, positive use of gadgets, artificial intelligence, social and emotional safety of young adults etc. Dr. Saima Kulsoom mainly highlighted recent advancements in Organizational Psychology.

 

She discussed recent trends in how organizational structures are now changing and focusing on including psychologists in every domain of an organization. Dr. Rayna Sadia made the session very interactive with the students by bringing in a quite new and interesting topic of Traffic Psychology.

 

She discussed issues like gender ratio in road accidents, role of authorities in issuing licenses to the drivers, assessment of personalities in making decisions about safety on the roads, and lastly individual responsibilities of people to make driving on the roads more peaceful and safe. Students took a lot of interest in her talk and enjoyed the interactive session.

 

Last 20 minutes were dedicated to a Question/Answer session by the students. The presenters very enthusiastically replied to all of them. The session ended with a vote of Thanks by Dr. Sabahat Haqqani and distribution of souvenirs among the guests by Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar Farooq.
