Karachi: Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan and Muttahida Milli Yakjehti Council Pakistan, has voiced his disappointment over the acquittal of convicts in the Baldia Town tragedy case, stating that such decisions erode public trust in the judiciary and contribute to lawlessness.
According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, Dr. Zubair expressed that the acquittal was particularly regrettable given the severity of the incident, where 259 people perished and 59 sustained injuries due to a deliberate act of arson. Previously, a trial court had sentenced the accused to death based on investigations conducted by various agencies. The recent decision to overturn these convictions has caused distress among the victims' families.
Dr. Zubair warned that undermining judicial decisions could lead to public disillusionment with the legal system, potentially encouraging individuals to bypass legal channels and fostering conditions that may lead to increased lawlessness and terrorism. He underscored the importance of ensuring justice in critical cases to maintain public confidence in the judiciary and provide closure to those affected by such tragedies.
