Ehsan Mani not to continue as PCB Chairman

Lahore, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ehsan Mani today (Thursday) confirmed he will not be continuing as the PCB Chairman. PCB Patron, Prime Minister Imran Khan, as per PCB Constitution 2019, will now nominate two candidates to the Board of Governors for a three-year term, following which Justice (Retd) Azmat Saeed, as the Election Commissioner, will announce the election schedule for the BoG to elect the 36th PCB Chairman.

Mr Mani said: “I am thankful to PCB Patron, Prime Minister Imran Khan and grateful to my colleagues on the PCB Board of Governors for their support during the past three year. We made significant progress in becoming a credible, transparent and professional organisation. This resulted in Pakistan securing key positions on the ICC Committees, resumption of leading cricket playing countries tours of Pakistan, successful introduction of the new domestic cricket structure and hosting of the HBL Pakistan Super League in Pakistan.

“Some of the key projects that I have been spearheading during my time as the PCB Chairman include submission of bids for ICC Events from 2024-2031, finalisation of PCB’s Future Tours Programme 2024-2027, review of the HBL PSL business and financial model, and the sale PCB’s commercial and domestic media broadcast rights.

“I want to thank the PCB team, all the PSL franchise owners and other stakeholders for their support during my three years in the office. It has been an honour to lead this great organisation and I hope I have made positive contribution in taking Pakistan cricket forward.

“I would like to wish my successor the very best in taking the PCB and Pakistan cricket to the next level with the support of the excellent executive team at the PCB led by Wasim Khan.”

Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 set to resume

Dubai, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the resumption of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 supported by Dream 11 for the first time since February 2020, with two series scheduled for next month.

Oman will play host to both series, the first involving Nepal and the USA for six ODIs taking place between 13 and 20 September. The second will see Oman welcome PNG and Scotland between 25 September and 2 October. Each team will contest four matches each during each series with a maximum of eight points available as qualification to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 restarts for League 2.

Currently Oman sit on top of the standings with 16 points after 10 matches, followed by the United States in second place with 12 points from 12 matches after cricket in the competition was stopped due to COVID-19. For the full ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 standings click here.

After the 21 tri-series have been completed the top three teams will confirm their place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023. The bottom four teams will drop into the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off 2023 – which is a repechage event to the Global Qualifier – and will be joined by the winner of Challenge League A and B. The top two teams from the Play-Off will keep their hopes alive of participating in India 2023, by qualifying for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023. Sports Board Punjab to hold Punjab’s Fastest Man and Woman competitions next month

Lahore, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Sports Board Punjab (SBP) will organize competitions of Fastest Man and Woman of Punjab next month; this announcement was made by Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh while addressing a meeting at National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

Addressing the meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said U-21 male and female athletes from all tehsils, districts and divisions of province will be eligible to participate in the race competitions. “In the first phase we will start registration process of all aspiring male and female athletes and after that the competitions will be organized before September 15, 2021,” he informed.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh further said that the top position holders of male and female competitions will be awarded cash prize of Rs one lakh each. “The top 30 runners of these competitions will be given further training under the supervision of qualified coaches. We are quite hopeful to find several talented sprinters through these competitions”.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said: “Sports Board Punjab officials will hold meetings with relevant sports organizations to finalise necessary modalities of these competitions”. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh further informed that Sports Board Punjab will also organize javelin throw and other athletics competitions in near future. “Now our youth has great amount of craze for game of javelin throw after an encouraging performance of our star athlete Arshad Nadeem in Tokyo Olympics”.

Member Planning and Development Board Punjab Asadullah Faiz and his team visit different parts of Nishtar Park Sports Complex

Lahore, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Member Planning and Development Board Punjab Asadullah Faiz and his team along with Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh visited different parts of Nishtar Park Sports Complex on Tuesday to trace a suitable site for the construction of Hockey High Performance Centre.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh gave a detailed briefing to Member Planning and Development Board Punjab Asadullah Faiz and his team about multiple features of Hockey High Performance Centre. Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Rauf Bajwa and other officials were also present on this occasion.

In his briefing, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said that the High Performance Centre will prove to be a revolutionary measure for the revival of hockey. “Definitely, it will be a great facility for young male and female hockey players. Our talented players and coaches will be able to polish their skills at the High Performance Centre which will be equipped with all modern facilities,” he added.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh further said that hockey is our national game and Sports Board Punjab will leave no stone unturned for the promotion of this game among the young generation. “Sports Board Punjab is organizing hockey events regularly to provide sufficient playing opportunities to young male and female hockey players of the province”.

Member Planning and Development Board Punjab Asadullah Faiz and his team also visited the under construction squash complex and Punjab Tennis Stadium. Meanwhile, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh inspected the site of five practice tennis courts in Nishtar Park Sports Complex on Tuesday. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh was accompanied by Deputy Director Rauf Bajwa and PMU officers during his inspection visit.

Talking on this occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said that Sports Board Punjab is striving hard for the promotion of all games at grassroots level in the province. “These five practice tennis courts adjacent to State of the Art Tennis Stadium will play a great role in further popularizing the game of tennis among the young generation”. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh directed the relevant officers and contractors to utilize quality material in the preparation of five practice tennis courts.

Sports Board Punjab to organize First Chief Minister Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship from September 7-12

Lahore, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh has announced that Sports Board Punjab is going to organize First Chief Minister Punjab 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship at National Hockey Stadium from September 7-12, 2021; he said this while addressing an online meeting of all Divisional Sports Officers at National Hockey Stadium here on Monday.

Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, General Manager Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Women Wing Ms Tanzeela Amir Cheema, Deputy Director Chand Perveen and all Divisional Sports Officers also attended the important online meeting. Addressing the online meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said as many as 12 under-25 teams will participate in the tournament being organized as part of 2023 Oman Women Hockey World Cup preparations.

“Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will field two teams each in the tournament while Balochistan, Islamabad, Army, HEC, WAPDA and Railways will send one team each for the grand hockey tournament,” he added. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh further said that 5-a-Side National Women Hockey Championship will play a key role in further popularizing the game of hockey among the young girls of the province.

General Manager Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Women Wing Ms Tanzeela Amir Cheema, on this occasion congratulated Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh for organizing such a big hockey tournament for talented female hockey players. “Definitely, this tournament will provide a suitable platform to emerging hockey players belong to far-flung areas of the province. I’m quite confident that Pakistan will be able to formulate a strong outfit for 2023 Oman Women Hockey World Cup after this tournament”.

Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Umer Farooq chairs meeting to review Faisalabad Division’s Sports Development Projects and sports activities

Lahore, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Umer Farooq presided over an important meeting to review Faisalabad Division’s Sports Development Projects and sports activities at National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, Deputy Director Rauf Bajwa, Divisional Sports Officer Faisalabad Rana Hammad Iqbal, District Sports Officer Faisalabad Ms Sajida Latif and other officials attended the meeting. Divisional and District Sports Officers of Faisalabad briefed the meeting about Faisalabad Division’s various Sports Development Projects and sports activities.

Addressing the meeting, Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Umer Farooq said there is plenty of sports talent in Faisalabad. “We are organising regular sports competitions in Faisalabad to groom young players. It’s the only way to provide sufficient opportunities to talented youth of the far-flung areas.”

He stressed upon the concerned officials to complete sports development projects as early as possible. “The sports culture will further grow in Faisalabad division after the completion of these valuable sports facilities,” he added. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh on this occasion said: “Sports Board Punjab is putting special emphasis on the promotion of sports. We are establishing the best sports infrastructure at tehsil level to bring the talented youth towards sports activities”.
