Islamabad, The 19th Convocation of the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) was held recently in Islamabad, where a total of 1075 graduates were awarded degrees across various disciplines.
According to Capital University of Science and Technology, the convocation was graced by the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, as the chief guest, with Mian Amer Mahmood, Chancellor of CUST, presiding over the ceremony. The event also featured Mr. Syed Ahmed, a renowned IT professional, as the Guest of Honour.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of CUST, welcomed the graduates and underscored the university’s contribution to higher education. He expressed hope that the graduates would play a significant role in the scientific and technological advancement of the country through their skills, integrity, determination, and commitment.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, emphasized the critical role of education in the economic development of a country, highlighting its impact on raising productivity and efficiency. He addressed the current challenges faced by the nation, urging graduates to use their education to find solutions and meet the demands of the high-tech era.
The convocation saw the awarding of 35 PhD degrees in various fields, including Finance, Human Resource Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Bioinformatics. Notable PhD recipients included Sumaira Andleeb, Iftikhar Ali Janjua, Umer Niaz, Natasha Zahid, Asad Ali Jaffari, Zia ul Islam, Muhammad Aksar, and others.
The university also recognized the exceptional performance of its graduates by awarding 64 Academic Excellence Medals, comprising 30 gold, 17 silver, and 17 bronze, across disciplines like Management Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Biotechnology, and Microbiology.
A special accolade, the “Jinnah Gold Medal,” was awarded to Laiba Hashmi of the BS Biotechnology program for her distinguished performance in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
