Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Stands with Journalists on World Press Freedom Day

Islamabad, On World Press Freedom Day, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, expressed his strong support for journalists and media professionals globally, emphasizing the critical role of press freedom in sustaining democracy and promoting transparency.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Chairman PPP highlighted the essential nature of press freedom as a democratic cornerstone, crucial for the flourishing of diverse ideas and ensuring government accountability. He called on all democratic entities to protect and champion this fundamental right actively.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari detailed the historical contributions of the PPP to press freedom in Pakistan, referencing the legislative actions taken under his grandfather, Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and his mother, Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. These actions, he noted, significantly liberalized media policies and supported the growth of an independent press. He also mentioned the “Right to Know” being enshrined in the Constitution through the 18th Constitutional Amendment during President Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure.

Furthermore, Chairman PPP acknowledged the severe challenges faced by journalists, including censorship, the spread of fake news, and the threat of violence. He called for media organizations to maintain high standards of journalistic integrity and professionalism.

Expressing solidarity with journalists working under difficult conditions in conflict zones such as Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Gaza, Chairman PPP lauded their bravery and commitment to reporting on human rights abuses amidst significant dangers.

Concluding his message, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to supporting press freedom, urging continued advocacy for this cause to ensure a future where journalists can freely report the truth without fear.
