KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has emphasized the critical importance of wetlands to environmental stability, food security, and climate resilience. In a message on World Wetlands Day, he stressed the need for immediate collective measures to preserve these ecosystems, highlighting the disproportionate impact of their destruction on the poorest and most vulnerable communities.
According to a press release issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, Bhutto Zardari noted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and the crucial role of its wetlands, including rivers, lakes, mangroves, and deltaic systems. He highlighted the protective function of Sindh’s wetlands and mangroves, which have historically shielded coastal areas and supported numerous livelihoods. He framed their preservation as both an environmental necessity and a social justice issue.
Reaffirming his party’s dedication to environmental causes, Bhutto Zardari stated that the PPP is committed to climate action that prioritizes people, protects natural resources, and promotes sustainable development for future generations. He called on governments, communities, and young people to act as stewards of wetlands, advocating for a harmonious relationship with nature as essential for a safer and more hopeful future.
