Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Advocates for Enhanced Efforts in Girl Child Education and Safety on International Day of the Girl Child

Karachi, 10 Oct 2023:On the International Day of the Girl Child, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari calls for amplified national endeavours towards ensuring the education and safety of young girls in Pakistan, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the nation to mitigate issues such as discrimination against girls, domestic violence, forced labour, and early marriages. This message was conveyed through a press release disseminated by the Media Cell Bilawal House and has been shared by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

According to Zardari, the girls of Pakistan possess bravery and talent akin to Pakistani women, insisting that it is the duty of the government and society to create a friendly and harmonious environment for them, which includes providing better education and health facilities. Zardari believes that with improved conditions and the opportunity to exercise their rights, girls in Pakistan have the potential to alter situations for the better.

Highlighting PPP’s commitment to equal rights and equality for all citizens, Zardari recalled the contributions of the founding chairman of the party and the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in instigating progressive thinking and policies for women at the governmental level. Zardari reiterated the encouraging stance towards women’s full participation in all national spheres as emphasized in the Constitution of 1973, described as “Shaheed Bhutto’s great gift to the nation.”

Zardari went on to detail the revolutionary steps taken for the advancement and empowerment of Pakistani women and girls by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto during her short tenures in government, such as legislation crafted to protect women’s rights. He noted that whether under the federal government leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari or the provincial government in Sindh, PPP governments have persistently prioritized women’s progress and empowerment across all age groups, including young girls. This commitment is reflected through initiatives like the Waseela-e-Taleem Program under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and scholarships for financially disadvantaged female students in Sindh.

Vowing to employ all possible resources for the development of every girl child in a conducive environment with the government formed post the upcoming general elections, Zardari affirmed that this approach aligns with the PPP’s trajectory towards sustainable development and a prosperous future, essentially embodying the dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, which envisaged the empowerment and active participation of Pakistani women in every field of life.
