Islamabad, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, expressed optimism for justice in the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto reference case while speaking to media at the Supreme Court. Accompanied by his aunt Sanam Bhutto and sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, he attended a hearing and later discussed the significance of the case in correcting historical and legal precedents.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal emphasized the unique nature of the case and its potential to rectify historical injustices. He expressed confidence in Justice Qazi Faez Isa and his fellow judges to deliver a verdict in accordance with the law. Bilawal also addressed the case’s adjournment until after the upcoming elections, scheduled for February 8, affirming that the PPP hopes for a decision post-election regardless of external influences.
Bilawal highlighted the PPP’s recent successes in local elections in Karachi and Hyderabad and its victories over PTI and PML-N in by-elections. He underscored the PPP’s unique position of leading local, provincial, and federal governments, which he believes will enable more efficient governance in Karachi. The PPP chairman also presented the party’s 10-point economic agenda aimed at addressing poverty, inflation, and unemployment.
Responding to a question about electoral symbols, Bilawal criticized the allocation of the “cricket bat” symbol to PTI, alleging it was a ploy to favour Imran Khan due to the nation’s interest in cricket. He contrasted this with the PPP’s historical symbol, the “sword,” which was replaced by the “arrow.”
Regarding Imran Khan’s imprisonment, Bilawal remarked that legal consequences should follow if Khan is guilty, drawing parallels to PPP’s past experiences with legal battles. He criticized Khan’s approach to politics and called for a conducive environment for political activities.
Bilawal concluded by emphasizing the need for all political stakeholders to acknowledge and correct their mistakes, promote democratic values, and learn from history for a better future. He expressed confidence in the PPP’s connection with the people and its commitment to improving Pakistan’s political, economic, and social landscape.
