In a remarkable display of skill, 16-year-old Shorna Akter from Bangladesh has made a significant leap in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings. Her performance against South Africa in the first women’s T20I in Benoni, where she claimed her maiden five-wicket haul, has propelled her up the rankings, making her one of the most promising young talents in women’s cricket today.
According to International Cricket Council, Akter’s impressive haul catapulted her 46 places up to 105th among bowlers, now boasting 297 ratings points. She also made a notable jump in the all-rounders list, moving up 38 slots to 79th with 63 points, joining the ranks of Pakistan’s Aliya Riaz and New Zealand’s Hannah Rowe.
The success wasn’t limited to Akter alone. Her teammates, riding the wave of their lead in the three-match series against South Africa, also saw significant advancements in the rankings. Rabeya Khan climbed five spots to 24th in the bowlers list with 591 points and improved her position in the all-rounders list from 75th to 63rd. Fahima Khatun, too, moved up to 46th with 511 points.
The batting rankings also reflected positive shifts for the Bangladeshi team. Captain Nigar Sultana moved up one place to 19th, while opener Murshida Khatun’s strong performance elevated her seven places to 41st.
The match also saw gains for South African players. Anneke Bosch’s career-best performance propelled her up 20 places in the batters list to 14th, and she also climbed the all-rounders’ list.
Additionally, the T20I series opener between the White Ferns and Pakistan brought changes to the rankings. Fatima Sana of Pakistan made a significant leap, as did New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Maddy Green, highlighting the dynamic nature of the women’s T20I landscape.
