LAHORE: A high-level delegation of academic leaders from Bangladesh visited LUMS to explore opportunities for deeper regional collaboration in higher education, research, and academic exchange.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh, and facilitated by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. The visit included Vice Chancellors from leading public and private universities in Bangladesh, along with senior officials from UGC Bangladesh. This engagement builds on LUMS' existing academic ties in Bangladesh, highlighted by its participation in HEC Expos in multiple cities and a recently signed MoU with North South University, as well as ongoing collaboration with the University of Chittagong.
During a meeting with LUMS Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema, Provost Dr. Tariq Jadoon, deans, and faculty, discussions focused on enhancing academic linkages by leveraging shared histories while learning from distinct national contexts. Participants explored opportunities for advancing these goals through research collaboration, student and faculty exchange, executive education, legal education, and joint academic initiatives.
Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed expressed gratitude to the LUMS leadership for their hospitality and described the visit as a crucial platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing. He emphasized that higher education institutions benefit from collaboration and that deeper ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan can bolster academic excellence, institutional capacity, and student opportunities.
