Rawalpindi, Ayub Park Cricket Ground, also known as Ayub Park Cricket Stadium, is poised to host its inaugural women’s cricket match on Monday, 15 January, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of women’s sports in the region.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the upcoming match in the National Women’s T20 Tournament will feature the Lahore region, led by Nida Dar, against the Multan region, headed by Umm-e-Hani. Since its establishment in 2013, Ayub Park Cricket Stadium has been a venue for PCB’s U16 and U19 cricket matches and has conducted district trials. The stadium boasts a 60-meter boundary and three pitches prepared for the women’s tournament.
The venue is also known for its cricket museum, which includes autographed bats from the West Indies team of 1959 and a variety of cricket souvenirs and magazines. The Army Heritage Foundation (AHF) diligently maintains the stadium’s facilities, which include an adjacent football ground.
Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket, expressed her enthusiasm about organizing women’s cricket matches at Ayub Park Stadium and two other venues in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. She highlighted the stadium’s central location and proper infrastructure, making it an ideal venue for women’s domestic matches. Mallick also acknowledged the support of the Army Heritage Foundation, which is committed to further enhancing the ground, and anticipates more women’s cricket matches being held there in the future.
