Islamabad, Former President and current President of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP), Asif Ali Zardari, delivered a speech in Multan commemorating the 96th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, offering profound tributes to the party’s founder.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, President Zardari recalled his initiatives during his tenure, highlighting his awareness of South Punjab’s situation and his decision to appoint Yousaf Raza Gilani as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He underscored the PPP’s commitment to serving the Pakistani people, mentioning the introduction of the Benazir Income Support Program aimed at aiding poor women. Zardari also noted the increase in support prices for wheat and cotton during the PPP’s governance from 2000-2013, which benefited the impoverished sectors.
Discussing economic achievements, Zardari pointed out that under his government, cotton exports exceeded 25 billion dollars, contributing to a total export figure of 40 billion dollars. He lamented the lack of sustained progress in subsequent administrations. Emphasizing the resilience and strength of the Pakistani people, he expressed his commitment to training and empowering them for the country’s prosperity.
Zardari also mentioned sending a reference to the Supreme Court regarding Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s murder case, expressing confidence in a positive outcome that would establish Bhutto’s innocence. He shared personal reflections about his time in the same prison cell as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, gaining insights into the former leader’s life and ideology, which he believes sets his understanding apart from others.
Concluding his speech, President Zardari vowed to work towards the prosperity of Multan, South Punjab, and all four provinces of Pakistan. He pledged to serve the legacy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the nation until his last breath.
