Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Hosts Condolence Reference for Hameeda Kashish


Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi organized a condolence reference to honor the memory of senior prose writer and poetess Hameeda Kashish at the Haseena Moin Hall. The event was attended by prominent literary figures, including Shadab Ehsani, Iftikhar Malik, Bashir Khan Sadozai, Sohail Ahmed, and Dr. Aaliya Imam. The proceedings commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, and Abdul Basit served as the moderator for the event.



According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Prof. Shadab Ehsani spoke at the event, highlighting that Hameeda Kashish embodied multiple dimensions of literature. He noted that if her work were compiled in book form, it would reveal the depth of her literary contributions. Dr. Aaliya Imam described Kashish as a remarkable individual, whose value is felt more profoundly following her passing. She praised Kashish for her grace and admirable qualities.



Writer Bashir Khan Sadozai reflected on her exemplary character and morals, mentioning that she passed away in a traffic accident. He noted that her writings and photographs would continue to preserve her memory. Sadozai also highlighted the Arts Council’s tradition of honoring its contributors. Poet Iftikhar Malik revealed that Hameeda Kashish’s real name was Hameeda Sehar, and she adopted the pen name “Kashish” after joining the Arts Council, which contributed to her recognition. He described her as a simple and humble person.



Sohail Ahmed remarked on Kashish’s prominent place in both poetry and prose, emphasizing that her poetry resonated deeply with audiences. The event included poetic tributes, with Iftikhar Malik reciting verses of Mirza Ghalib and Sohail Ahmed presenting his own poetry in homage to the late writer.
