Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Celebrates Aziz Hamid Madni’s 104th Birth Anniversary

Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted a commemorative event at the Josh Malihabadi Library to honor the 104th birth anniversary of the esteemed poet, scholar, and critic Aziz Hamid Madni. The event, presided over by Professor Sahar Ansari, a distinguished Urdu critic and poet, featured discussions on Madni's extensive contributions to literature by notable figures such as Mubeen Mirza, Dr. Faheem Shanas Kazmi, and Ambreen Haseeb Amber. The ceremony included a cake-cutting in Madni's memory and was moderated by Salman Sarwat.

According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Professor Ansari highlighted Madni's multifaceted personality and his commitment to principles and academic integrity. Madni's dedication to scholarly honesty was exemplified by his practice of obtaining formal permission from original publishers before translating French poetry. He was praised for his ability to synthesize Eastern and Western intellectual traditions, reflecting a deep understanding of various literary histories. Despite a domestic accident and subsequent battle with cancer leading to his demise, Madni's literary legacy endures through his profound and morally sincere writings.

Prominent critic Mubeen Mirza emphasized the need to preserve Madni's memory and work for future generations. Mirza described him as a pioneer of modern consciousness within the Progressive Writers' Movement. Dr. Kazmi remarked on Madni's poetry for its historical and cultural consciousness, noting his exceptional stature in Urdu literature. Poet Ambreen Haseeb Amber shared personal memories of Madni, recalling his distinctive mannerisms and thoughtful nature. She detailed his meticulous approach to creative work, reflecting a continuous process of refinement throughout his career.
