LAHORE: The Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at advancing engineering education and professional development across the region. The recently signed Agreement of Cooperation (AoC) emphasizes collaboration in research, education, and technical activities, with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and the engineering profession.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, the agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, and President IEP, Engr. Sohail Bashir, in the presence of senior officials. The partnership outlines initiatives such as joint technical events, exchanges of information, and opportunities for students and faculty. Key aspects include organizing conferences, symposiums, workshops, and other professional activities related to engineering and technology.
A notable component of the agreement is the recognition of academic excellence, where IEP will begin awarding Gold Medals in 2026 to first-position holders of PEC-accredited engineering programs at UET Lahore and its campuses. Additionally, top position holders will receive complimentary lifetime membership of IEP, provided formalities are met.
The agreement also stipulates the formation of IEP Student Chapters at UET Lahore, enabling student participation in collaborative technical and professional activities. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir highlighted the agreement’s role in fostering professional excellence and industry-academia collaboration, while also enhancing leadership development among future engineers.
The Agreement of Cooperation is set to last for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual consent.
