Kigali: Rwanda is set to host the final leg of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Qualifier, from 22 to 29 September 2024, at Gahanga and IPRC Cricket Grounds, where eight teams will compete for the sole spot in the 2025 World Cup.
According to International Cricket Council, the tournament will feature teams from Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for 29 September at Gahanga Cricket Ground. The tournament winner will secure the last available African slot for the 2025 World Cup.
Fourteen teams have already qualified for the World Cup, including 10 full-member teams from the inaugural 2023 edition. In November 2024, Kuwait, Nepal, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates will compete for the final qualification slot in a separate regional qualifier.
Rwanda Cricket Association President Stephen Musaale expressed pride in hosting the event, highlighting the growth of cricket in Rwanda and the potential impact of the tournament on local youth participation in the sport.
